Tell us about your family. How do you feel about relocating?

I am a Mississippi native that the Lord brought to Texas around seven years ago. I am the eldest child of a fairly large family. I recently relocated to Tyler TX.

How old were you when you were drawn to Christ and how is your Christian walk these days?

By God’s grace, He saved me at the age of six. Through both the mountains of valleys of life, the Godhead has graciously continued to sanctify me. I desire to live my life by 1 Corinthians 10:31.

How have the Doctrines of Grace changed or affected your life?

I am a convinced Particular (Reformed) Baptist. Thus, the doctrines of grace have greatly affected my belief about justification, sanctification, and glorification. I fully subscribe to the 1677 (1689) London Baptist Confession.

Do you have a "Quiet Time?" What are you studying?

Personal devotion (private worship) is quite important for the believer. Bible study is an essential part of this devotion. Sometimes, I delve deeply into two or three chapters of Scripture, spending many days studying the same chapters, and other times, I try to read larger portions of the Word to better understand the context. Both are important and beneficial for spiritual growth.

Who is your favorite Biblical Character and why?

Christ is my Lord and Savior. Thus, He is my favorite biblical character. I also enjoy studying Paul and his letters. Paul was a bold man of God used mightily to proclaim the Word of the Lord.

Are you content being single? Why? If not, why?

Though I desire marriage, I am content to be single as long as God has sovereignly willed.

What are four qualities your friends would attribute to you?

Firm: I am a man of deep conviction. When I am convinced that something is true and worth fighting for, I stand boldly upon that truth.
Verbose: I greatly enjoy discussion.
Analytical: I thoroughly enjoy thinking about why things are done and how they occur.
Inquisitive: I have many questions, and I love the process of researching to find answers.

What are three things you are most thankful for?

Salvation: Without salvation, I would truly have no hope.
Church and Family: I am grateful for the people that God has brought into my life.
Saints of the past: I have been greatly shaped through studying the lives and writings of those that have fought the good fight and finished the race. These men of God are both wonderful examples and great encouragement.

Describe the character and personality traits you enjoy in another person? What are yours?

I enjoy a person who is sincere or real. Further, I like to be around those that are consistent and know both who they are and desire to be. I also enjoy a person that is witty and humorous. The ability to carry on a conversation is also nice.

Other than your parents, who has been the most influential person in your life and how?

To answer this question appropriately, I must list two individuals. First, my grandfather has been the most influential person that I have personally known. He is both my hero and mentor. He has served over forty years in the gospel ministry, and he is a devout man of God. Secondly, I must mention the seventeenth-century Particular Baptist pastor Benjamin Keach. The Lord granted me the opportunity to write my dissertation about Keach and his doctrine on liturgy/worship. Keach was a man devoted to preaching God’s Word and serving the local body. Despite much persecution, he remained faithful to the cause of Christ.

What contributed to your previous relationship/marriage ending?

How long have you been on your own since and what did you to do get through it?

Favorite lines from movies, poems, songs, hymns or Scripture you would like to tell us about?

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

What type of work do/did you do?

Currently, I am a music teacher and choir director at a classical academy. I love teaching and igniting the imaginations of students through thought provoking questions, storytelling, and wonderful repertoire. In the past, I served as a graduate assistant at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a music minister.

How long have you been/were you in that line of work? Do/you enjoy it?

This is my first year teaching at this academy, and I thoroughly enjoy my line of work.

Do you have any life-long goals? What are they?

I have many life-long goals. These goals center around a desire to leave a legacy for the glory of God. First, I desire to teach. This allows me to inspire students. Second, I desire to serve in the gospel ministry (likely bi-vocational). Finally, I desire to write books and articles about biblical worship (and other topics).

Where were you born and where have you traveled?

I am a native of Mississippi. I was born in the delta, and I was raised in the Northwest corner of the state. I attended Mississippi College, located in the central part of the state. After graduation, the Lord led me to Fort Worth TX to continue my education at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. After receiving a Ph.D., the Lord moved me to Tyler TX to serve at Tyler Classical Academy. By God’s grace, I was blessed with the opportunity to travel and perform in many places throughout the country and some places internationally.

How do you enjoy your leisure time? What do you do for recreation?

I love to visit over a cup of coffee, and I thoroughly enjoy reading good books. I also enjoy singing and performing.

Is there anything that the questionnaire didn’t cover?

I am a man that desires to live my life according to the Word of God. Though I struggle and fall, I trust in God’s saving grace and sanctifying work.
