I am a “Christmas music all year” kind of girl, for sure and keep my favorite Messiah recording on my phone for easy access at all times. Sadly, it has been several years since I’ve been able to perform it with a choir and my hopes of doing so this Christmas season have been dashed by the Covid. Of course, that just means my roommates get treated to their own private concert of all the soprano parts.
In addition to the Messiah, I’ve found that the Sovereign Grace Music Christmas albums are consistently rich both theologically and musically. Their new album has given me one of my current favorites, “Oh Come All You Unfaithful.” It is well worth a listen. I’m also a huge fan of Andrew Peterson’s “Behold the Lamb” album – so much fun, especially “Matthew’s Begats.” Of course, there is little that beats the congregational singing of “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus,” “Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery,” “Glorious Impossible,” “Good Christian Men Rejoice,” or dozens of other classics.
