God’s sovereignty and providential care is a sweet pillow we can rest our heads on during life’s difficult seasons. In the midst of the chaos of 2020 and the shutdowns in California, I stumbled upon Sovereign Grace Singles while searching for Sovereign Grace music. What seemed like an accident was clearly the Lord’s guiding hand. I had been longing to meet someone who shared my beliefs—someone who desired the same Christ-centered foundation for marriage.

My name is Hani. I’m an Assyrian who was born in Iraq and came to the U.S. at a young age due to persecution. When the pandemic limited in-person connections, I turned to online dating and created a profile on Sovereign Grace Singles. On August 25th, 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, I met Karla—a Mexican sister in Christ—from Dallas, Texas. Though we were states apart, we immediately connected through our shared biblical convictions and a mutual desire to glorify God in all things.

As our daily conversations deepened, so did our desire to meet in person. In November 2020, I flew to Dallas to visit her. I was blessed to attend her church—a solid, biblical congregation led by godly elders and deacons. The visit confirmed what we had both sensed: this was something special. The following month, she came to visit me in San Diego. After she left, I realized just how much I missed her—and that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her.

By God’s grace, we got engaged in April 2021 and were married that September—exactly one year after we met. In January 2023, the Lord blessed us with our daughter, and in March 2024, we welcomed our son. Our story is one of God’s beautiful providence: two people from different ethnic backgrounds, united in Christ, brought together by His sovereign plan.
