  • Tell us about your family. How do you feel about relocating?:
Most of my family is in NC. I grew up here and am not interested in relocating.
  • How old were you when you were drawn to Christ and how is your Christian walk these days?:
I came to Christ through my late husband and his family as a teenager. I have never looked back after my conversion. Former Baptist, Reformed Baptist and now Orthodox Presbyterian. My late husband and I hosted a very small Reformed Baptist home church for 10 years after many years in a traditional Southern Baptist Church. We were never comfortable with the lack of accountability and proper education/training our unordained leaders within our home church and were so thankful to find the OPC. The Lord was very gracious Throughout my husband’s cancer and death and it was a time of great growth as has been the last 4 years since his passing, especially in the past 1.5 years.
  • How have the Doctrines of Grace changed or affected your life?:
Coming to the Doctrines of Grace was the beginning of the journey I just described above. It is incredible that God chose me when I did nothing to merit it and in fact did everything against His mercy. It is incredibly freeing to know that my salvation does not depend on my works as I had been taught previously. It is safe to say that coming to the doctrines of grace transformed everything about my Christian life and led to major changes to my life practically.
  • Do you have a "Quiet Time?" What are you studying?:
I have struggled with a desire for a consistent quiet time throughout my Christian life. Devotionals and reading scripture passages randomly left me feeling like I checked the quiet time box on the days when I was successful but mostly felt like empty exercises. Last January I determined that I would read through the Bible chronologically following a chart from Ligonier Ministry. Within a short time the Lord lead me to a great love for His Word that I had never known on a personal private level. I completed the entire Bible last year and have delved more deeply into various things this year. Most recently a thorough reading/study of the Proverbs and now the Psalms using the book “Learning to Love the Psalms” by Robert Godfrey. I am loving listening to the Psalms on Spotify performed by Jason Silver. I now love the Word and can spend lots of time each day reading and studying. It is indeed a praise that He would bring me to this point!
  • Who is your favorite Biblical Character and why?:
Joseph. I love the way he remained faithful despite incredible trials and mistreatment by nearly everyone in his life. His is the most obvious story of the sovereignty of God in using all things for good and for the glory to God. I have dealt with many trials in life. Joseph’s story and the promise of Romans 8:28 gives me great confidence in God’s great faithfulness even when it does not seem clear that He is at work.
  • Are you content being single? Why? If not, why?:
Yes. I am a bit of an introvert and very much enjoy time alone. However I find myself lonely for the depth of conversation and company of someone in projects I enjoy. I have said ever since the death of my husband that it would take the Lord pointing with great flashing arrows at someone or His putting someone clearly in my path to cause me to consider a new relationship. It would still need to be undeniably clear leading of the Lord but I find myself now thinking of how nice it would be to have someone to love and love me. That is the reason I just put friendship in the “seeking” blank In this profile.
  • What are four qualities your friends would attribute to you?:
That is a difficult question. I hope they could say confident in my faith, sincere, passionate for the Word and God’s sovereignty and committed to my family and friends.
  • What are three things you are most thankful for?:
My children, God’s physical provision, and my sisters
  • Describe the character and personality traits you enjoy in another person? What are yours?:
It is very important to me that people be honest and willing to be open and honest in communication. Despite being somewhat introverted, I am a verbal processor. I need someone who doesn’t mind listening to me work through a decision or plan out loud and in great detail. On the other hand I am also a very good active listener. I am very serious to a fault and enjoy someone who is more lighthearted and fun. I am too content to stay at home at work but would love to travel or just be locally active. I value someone with a servant’s heart for ministry and service. Too many reformed believers I know are so interested in getting their theology right that they have lost sight of the goal. Theology and correct doctrine are important, of course, but a humble spirit and feet on the ground service are critical.
  • Other than your parents, who has been the most influential person in your life and how?:
My late husband. We were together for 37 years, married 30. We grew up in every way together. He led me to Christ. We had an incredible relationship. I am who I am because of him. I never dated anyone before meeting him (we started dating at age 15) and have never dated anyone since his passing. I have never even considered it until now.
  • What contributed to your previous relationship/marriage ending?:
    Brain cancer
  • How long have you been on your own since and what did you to do get through it?:
4.5 years. Prayer, determination, necessity, family and friends
  • Favorite lines from movies, poems, songs, hymns or Scripture you would like to tell us about?:
I am not much of a tv or movie watcher and I have a terrible memory but my life verse is Romans 8:28. I quote it often and have it on various plaques in my house.
  • What type of work do/did you do?:
I taught elementary school after graduation but then came home with the birth of my first child. I never went back to work. I homeschooled all my children all through school and still have one to graduate.
  • How long have you been/were you in that line of work? Do/you enjoy it?:
5 years teaching in public and Christian schools and 24 years homeschooling. I have loved the privilege of learning along side my kids. I got a better education teaching them than I ever did in my own schooling. My favorite thing was reading aloud. We have read aloud even into high school. Also studying history as a story instead of a seemingly random list of names and dates.
  • Do you have any life-long goals? What are they?:
That my children and future grandchildren will know the Lord and serve Him. That I would be used of the Lord in whatever way He has for me in this new season of life. I would love to have a family business involving building, contracting, design and decor and furniture refurbishment with a side of gardening.
  • Where were you born and where have you traveled?:
I was born and raised in this area. I have lived in only 6 homes in my whole life and they are all within 10 minutes of each other (3 in the same neighborhood!) I have done very little traveling, none outside the country. I would like to but it was never in the budget and now I don’t have anybody to go with.
  • How do you enjoy your leisure time? What do you do for recreation?:
I love home decor and projects. I have had booths in several antique malls selling furniture I have redone. Mainly raising a family has kept me from much leisure time. I used to enjoy swimming and walking for exercise and a hit and miss relationship with the YMCA. I used to love to read and have done a little more of that of late. I enjoy board games, especially word related ones like Scrabble and Banana Grams. I love HGTV and real crime stories but otherwise watch very little tv/movies. I could enjoy cooking if I had someone to do it with. I would love to enjoy healthy eating and exercise but find it difficult to find motivation.
  • Is there anything that the questionnaire didn’t cover?:
I have a 4 lb Pomeranian/Chihuahua that I adopted after my husband passed away. She keeps me company. I do have 2 kids still at home. A 14 year old boy entering 9th grade and my 22 year old daughter that is working and attending community college. My first grand baby is due August 12 to my 2nd son who is age 27 and lives locally. I have a 28 year old son in NY temporarily and a 21 year old daughter who just graduated with a degree in psychology and lives in an apartment. That is 5 total in case you’ve lost count.
  • О себе:
I am a serious night owl. I love sweets and diet soda way too much. I have no sense of direction. I am not very tech savvy. I love to write/compose. I take ages just to write an email to get it to say exactly what I mean. I’ve thought about starting a blog but the lack of tech skills puts a damper on that. I did write a blog when my husband was sick and compiled all our entries into a book after he passed. I love yard sales and a good bargain and rarely pay full price for anything. I am a skinflint or tightwad (whichever term you like) and it is hard for me to spend money. I am no theologian and have a terrible memory for vocabulary but can carry on a pretty decent conversation over doctrinal issues and I love to grapple with how the scriptures apply to practical decisions. I have a pacemaker with a dead battery (long story) and I wear hearing aids for 20% hearing loss that could be attributed to an accident I had as a child.
  • Мои Интересы:
I think I’ve about covered that in the other questions but I’m pretty much an open book if I’ve left anything of interest out.
