  • Tell us about your family. How do you feel about relocating?:
My family and I moved down from Burlington, Vermont to Williamsburg, Virginia when I was about 3 years old. My parents have been walking faithfully with the Lord for decades and have been involved in youth ministry, Christian education, and homeschooling for many years. Williamsburg has become very near and dear to my heart, but I would absolutely consider relocating as the Lord directs.
  • How old were you when you were drawn to Christ and how is your Christian walk these days?:
The Lord saved me when I was 15 years old. Though raised in the evangelical church, my understanding of the gospel and of the meaning of Christ's atoning work remained shallow for many years. Around the age of 12, through the ministries of Ray Comfort, John MacArthur, Paul Washer, Todd Friel, and others, I began to more clearly understand the gravity of my sin, of the wrath of God, of the Law - it was then that the Spirit gave me spiritual sight to see the beauty of what Christ did in laying down His life upon the cross for sinners like me. I fell upon my knees in repentance and faith, and He saved me! He removed the burden of sin and gave me a new heart, just as He promised to do. By God's grace, I have been following Christ as my King and Savior since that time. He continues to renew me day by day, conforming me to the image of His Son and granting me greater hatred for sin and greater love for Him. Praise be to God!
  • How have the Doctrines of Grace changed or affected your life?:
In short, Reformed theology has come to drastically shape my worldview. Still, I am convinced that, as C.H. Spurgeon famously noted, Calvinism (i.e. the Doctrines of Grace, Reformed theology) is simply a nickname for biblical Christianity. Thus, it is not that the Doctrines of Grace have "shaped my life," as much as it the gospel that has shaped my life - and these doctrines are integral to that gospel! Though I have great respect for John Calvin, Martin Luther, John Knox, and other men the Lord used to reform the church and call her back to her biblical, Pauline, Augustinian roots, I understand that these men were just that - sinful, weak men used by a great and merciful God. And that is really the heart of reformed theology: the greatness of God's plan in redemption history to exalt Himself and bring glory to His name. What a humbling privilege that He has called me, a vile, needy sinner, to partake in this plan! Soli Deo Gloria!
  • Do you have a "Quiet Time?" What are you studying?:
I do, though I prefer not to divide the Christian life into a sort of dichotomy of "quiet time" and "work time." I do not appreciate the Roman Catholic-like connotation that the term "quiet time" can carry (i.e. the false notion of secular vs. sacred) - Christ died to purchase all of the man: heart, mind, soul, strength, intellect, work, property, passions, emotions, and so on. The Reformers hit this nail on the head. That is, in a sense, the entirety of the Christian life should be a "quiet time," in that we are called to "pray without ceasing" (1 Thess. 5:17) and "abide in [Christ]" (John 15:4). If by "quiet time," we simply mean a special time dedicated to the spiritual disciplines or means of grace, then, yes, I have a daily quiet time. I am currently reading through and meditating on the Psalms, specifically the Songs of Ascent. I have also enjoyed a sweet time of communion with the Lord in prayer as I have meditated in these Psalms. In addition to the reading of Scripture and prayer, I like to read through a devotional/theological book to compliment and augment what I am learning from the Word. Currently, that book is J.C. Ryle's classic volume, Holiness. Finally, during commute time and during other similar opportunities, I enjoy listening to the Scriptures - I have found this particularly helpful for Scripture memorization and comprehension of the cohesion of the arguments the Scriptural authors make!
  • Who is your favorite Biblical Character and why?:
Christ. Christ. Christ. He is the beginning and the end. He is the King of kings and Lord of Lords. All other biblical characters whom we like to commend or admire (i.e. David, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Paul, Enoch, Silas) are commendable insofar as they call to mind attributes of the Supreme Christ. In other words, they are types and shadows of Christ - the only One who perfectly fulfilled the Law of God in behalf of His people.
  • Are you content being single? Why? If not, why?:
I am content being single if the Lord wills that I be single. However, knowing that it is not good for man to be alone, I strongly desire marriage and family, and I do not have reason to believe God has called me to singleness.
  • What are four qualities your friends would attribute to you?:
    Conscientious, Ambitious, Thoughtful, Dedicated
  • What are three things you are most thankful for?:
1). The supreme blessing of knowing and enjoying God and His Son Jesus Christ, which is eternal life (John 17:3). 2). My parents and their steadfast dedication to raise me in the fear and admonition of the Lord (Eph. 6:4). 3). A faithful church body that is passionate about the glory of God.
  • Describe the character and personality traits you enjoy in another person? What are yours?:
Thoughtful, Outgoing, Selfless, Christlike, Diligent, Hard-working, Independent, Self-forgetting, passionate, well-educated, zealous for Christ's kingdom and for raising children who will serve the Lord!
  • What type of work do/did you do?:
I am currently a pastoral assistant at Christ Fellowship Church here in Williamsburg, Virginia. Among other things, this involves assisting the elders with various administrative tasks, such as email correspondence, maintaining official church documents, and updating the church calendar. My role also entails accompanying our senior pastor on pastoral visits and to pastor's gatherings. I really enjoy my job and am so thankful for the opportunity! From the age of 10 to 18, I served as a member of the Colonial Williamsburg Fifes and Drums, a world-renowned fife and drum corps here in historic Williamsburg, Virginia. I love music and history! In my final year, I was appointed to the highest rank in the corps, Sergeant Major. Through this role, the Lord taught me much about what it means to be a distinctly Christian leader in a generally secular environment. I praise God for this opportunity!
  • How long have you been/were you in that line of work? Do/you enjoy it?:
I have been working as a pastoral assistant for a year and three months. I definitely enjoy it!
  • Do you have any life-long goals? What are they?:
I am presently majoring in Government, pre-law, at Regent University. One inspiration in my decision to major in Government is my dad, as he is a high-school government teacher and has helped me understand the great importance of developing Christian worldview of politics and government. Though I have entertained the thought of further pursuing government and politics (i.e. law school), I am now pursuing full-time vocational ministry and Christian education. By God’s grace, I am serving our church right now as a pastoral assistant, which is giving me more of idea of what ministry is really like. After graduation, I hope to begin my MDiv. through The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and/or possibly intern at Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. In the long-term, I would like to found a Christian, classical school that would serve to disciple young minds and hearts as an arm of the local church. I am working with a couple close friends right now on this idea. My dream profession is to serve as a pastor/elder of a local church and a Christian educator or professor. I'd particularly love to teach biblical worldview, church history, theology, Bible, or even the biblical languages.
  • How do you enjoy your leisure time? What do you do for recreation?:
In my free time, I enjoy studying – studying theology, church history, American history, economics, government, and politics. Additionally, I always enjoy a good discussion that pertains to any of these topics. I also enjoy listening to various kinds of music, including some Christian contemporary, ‘80s rock, Puritan hymns, and dramatic instrumental movie soundtracks. I enjoy playing the fife, the penny whistle, and some snare drum; in addition, I am currently teaching myself to play the piano. Finally, I enjoy playing a variety of sports, including football, baseball, and basketball.
  • O mnie:
My name is Josiah Monfreda and I am looking for a life-long partner who loves the Lord Jesus Christ and who will follow Him with me as a faithful wife.

Though raised in a Christian home, I do not think I was saved until about 6 years ago. My relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ can be summarized in this way: I was lost, dead, and headed for hell, but He, as the old hymn says, “sought me as a stranger, wandering from the fold of God; He to rescue me from danger, interposed His precious blood” (Robinson & Madan). He came and chose to save me, a man unworthy to be called a son of God (Luke 15:19, English Standard Version). The cup of God’s wrath that I deserve to drink has been swallowed up by Christ (Isaiah 53; Matthew 26:39). Now, because of the richness of His mercy, I know nothing but His grace and love for me each day, as He renews my soul and helps to me walk in greater holiness before Him day by day (Ephesians 2:4, 4:17). I pray often that He would keep and preserve my soul on this narrow way, though my flesh, this world, and the devil constantly seek after me – yet, the Lord will bring me safely home, for He promises not to lose one of His sheep whom the Father has given Him (John 6:37-39). Since my conversion, the Lord has so graciously blessed me in a number of ways. One such way was His guiding my family and I to a Bible-preaching, Gospel-faithful church here in Williamsburg.

I am currently employed part-time as a pastoral assistant at my local church here in Williamsburg, VA. I believe I am called to serve the Lord in pastoral ministry and/or Christian education. In my free time, I enjoy reading good books, particularly about theology, church history, U.S. history, government/politics, economics, and political philosophy. I also enjoy recreating by playing a variety of sports, including football, basketball, and baseball.
