Tell us about your family. How do you feel about relocating?

I come from a large family. I am the second oldest of five girls. Please don’t feel sorry for me dad, he is fine:-) We are all very close and I consider my mom to be my best friend. My sisters and I were homeschooled up through high school so I have had 18 years of home economics.

At this point in my life, I would not be comfortable relocating for personal reasons.

How old were you when you were drawn to Christ and how is your Christian walk these days?

I was around 11 or 12 when God saved me. I was raised in a Christian home and for the longest time, I assumed that I was a believer because I had prayed a prayer when I was in kindergarten. As I grew older, the Holy Spirit began to convict me of my sin and through this, I saw that I was not a follower of Christ.

Since the day of God’s calling, He has been faithful to sanctify me and I have grown in my love and understanding of Him.

How have the Doctrines of Grace changed or affected your life?

To be honest, I struggled with understanding these doctrines. It was hard for me to accept that God would pick and choose who would receive His grace and who would not. Ultimately, it was my lack of understanding of the holiness of God and the sinfulness of man that kept me from seeing that no one deserves the grace of God. Those whom God has chosen are truly blessed.

This knowledge has had a profound impact on my life. I recognize that there was nothing in me that could have chosen God, it was completely His work alone that saved me from my sin. It did not matter that I grow up in a Christian home. The fact that I was a “good” person made no difference. Even though I knew the scriptures and somewhat obeyed them was not God’s reason for calling me from the darkness. He is a merciful God who deserves all glory in the salvation of His church.

In the last few years, these doctrines have been especially important to me because of sudden health struggles that have pretty much shut down my life. My sickness has brought great pain and heartache. It is something that not only drains my body but also my soul. Remembering the Lord’s loving-kindness in my salvation has been one of the greatest comforts to me. Even in my suffering, I can truly say that God is ever kind to me.

Do you have a "Quiet Time?" What are you studying?

Yes!! I have quiet times! I struggle to make it daily, but this is my ultimate goal.  Currently, I am reading through the bible. I have made it to I Samuel. This is just my light reading. I am doing a more in-depth study of Psalm 119 using Spurgeon’s Golden Alphabet commentary. I also want to finish memorizing the book of James.

Who is your favorite Biblical Character and why?

Oh man, after Jesus, I have a hard time choosing. I love the writings of John and Peter, but I also receive much encouragement from Abraham.

John is helpful to me in that he gets straight to the heart of the matter of Christ-centered living. John 13-17 are some of my favorite passages to study and read.

The story of Peter is very relatable to me and is thus a great source of encouragement when I feel disheartened. His perspective of a Christian’s life in persecution and suffering calm my soul!

Abraham was a man of faith. He challenges me to follow the truth regardless of the circumstances. His life also convicts me to always remember the promises of the Lord and to recount the many good things that He has done. It is important to remember the work of the Lord at all times.

Are you content being single? Why? If not, why?

Yes and no.

What are four qualities your friends would attribute to you?

Oh dear. People have called me quirky, an old soul, gentle and tough.

What are three things you are most thankful for?

My salvation, the fellowship of the church, and the scriptures. I have to also add my family to the list:-)

I try to be thankful all the time!

Describe the character and personality traits you enjoy in another person? What are yours?

I enjoy people who are considerate of others and responsible. I also like someone with a good sense of humor. I feel comfortable around people who are easygoing, but really I am good with all personality types except for those who are excessively negative. I cannot stand small talk, so I like spending time with others who like to talk about deep serious stuff too. I have a hard time listing specific characteristics because I like meeting all kinds of people.

I am introverted and very shy, but I do like meeting people and learning about their lives. I really just love to learn in general and have always had a driving desire to understand people. I am content with being a worker behind the scenes, but I still push myself to be the best that I can be. I am ambitious, organized, and disciplined. I am also very analytical and love solving problems. However, I am awful at math:-)

Other than your parents, who has been the most influential person in your life and how?

There have been many people to impact my life, but the one who stands out the most would have to be Elizabeth Elliot. Though I have never met her, her books had a profound impact on my spiritual growth. I have read her book Passion and Purity many times and it still continues to challenge me. Though this book is centered around her courtship with her first husband, Jim Elliot, as a single person, I found many applicable lessons. She set by example, what it means to completely surrender to the will of God no matter the outcome. Her life and her writings have always been an inspiration to me.

What type of work do/did you do?

I have been a massage therapist since 2011. I specialized in outcome-based therapy centered mainly around pain management. I also am a certified continuing education provider and have worked as a TA at the local community college. Because of health issues, I have had to stop working and am not sure if I will be able to go back in the future. This has been very hard because I truly loved my job. But, I have learned first hand that God is faithful and I trust Him to show me what I need to pursue next in life.

Do you have any life-long goals? What are they?

To be consistent.

Where were you born and where have you traveled?

I was born in Washington DC and have only lived on the east coast. I have been to LA and Alaska as well as up into Canada. I have also been to Swaziland Africa, South Africa, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Germany, and Italy.
