Tell us about your family. How do you feel about relocating?

I live in the Netherlands and I have had the privilege of a Christian Reformed upbringing, for which I am very thankful. (I am Dutch Reformed, by the way) My family consists of my father and five children, of whom I am the eldest. My mother went to be with the Lord when I was thirteen. We are a close-knit family, though we don’t hesitate sharing our disagreements. I certainly wouldn’t mind relocating for the right reasons.

How old were you when you were drawn to Christ and how is your Christian walk these days?

I was fourteen when the Lord graciously saved me from my sin, bringing me to the end of myself and pointing me to Jesus. Nowadays my Christian life is killing the old man and putting on the new man. Looking to Jesus all the way through.

How have the Doctrines of Grace changed or affected your life?

Salvation is of the Lord, from His hand wretched sinners receive freely what they don’t ask for and don’t deserve. The providence of God also keeps me/makes me humble in the good times and sane in the rough times. God is on His throne and that is a great comfort.

As question & answer 26 of the Heidelberg Catechism say about this comfort:

What dost thou believe when thou sayest: I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth?

That the eternal Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who of nothing made heaven and earth, with all that in them is, who likewise upholds and governs the same by His eternal counsel and providence, is for the sake of Christ His Son my God and my Father; in whom I so trust, as to have no doubt that He will provide me with all things necessary for body and soul; and further, that whatever evil He sends upon me in this vale of tears He will turn to my good; for He is able to do it, being Almighty God, and willing also, being a faithful Father.

Do you have a "Quiet Time?" What are you studying?

I have a Bible reading plan in the morning where I read through the Bible in a year, and in the evening I just read whatever passage I like.

Who is your favorite Biblical Character and why?

Very hard to choose, but I think it has to be Peter. Many verses Jesus addresses to Peter have often powerfully spoken to me.

Are you content being single? Why? If not, why?

I am content. Impatience is foolishness, God knows better than I do. Nevertheless, I would love to have a relationship.

What are four qualities your friends would attribute to you?

I think they would think I’m driven, passionate and honest, though I can be blunt at times. I also like to think I am humorous.

What are three things you are most thankful for?

1. The cross of Christ for me

2. The guidance of the Holy Spirit through Scripture

3. The temporal blessings God has given

Describe the character and personality traits you enjoy in another person? What are yours?

The most important thing is that they love Jesus, that they are godly. One of the main reasons for signing up is to find someone with whom I can pursue a life pleasing to God. Not compromising, but steadily following the road that Jesus made and points to ahead. Putting our feet in His footsteps. I also really appreciate reliability, kindness and steadfastness. Next to that, I like to have fun with people.

As for myself, I try to do and be the things that I already typed above

Other than your parents, who has been the most influential person in your life and how?

An elder in my church I talk with a lot.

What contributed to your previous relationship/marriage ending?

Favorite lines from movies, poems, songs, hymns or Scripture you would like to tell us about?

This prayer/poem by Saint Patrick:

Christ with me,

Christ before me,

Christ behind me,

Christ in me,

Christ beneath me,

Christ above me,

Christ on my right,

Christ on my left,

Christ when I lie down,

Christ when I sit down,

Christ when I arise,

Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,

Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,

Christ in every eye that sees me,

Christ in every ear that hears me.

What type of work do/did you do?

How long have you been/were you in that line of work? Do/you enjoy it?

Do you have any life-long goals? What are they?

To have run the race well, to have kept the faith. As David Brainerd said: Oh, that I may never loiter on my heavenly journey. It is almost a nightmare to me to think about how I could waste my life with good, allowable and even necessary things, forgetting to lay up treasure in heaven.

As Joseph Alleine says:

“Come now, let this day be spent for God! Let us live this one day well. Could we resolve to be more than ordinarily circumspect for one day at a time, we would live at extraordinary rates.”

Where were you born and where have you traveled?

I was born in the Netherlands and I have travelled to/through Belgium, Luxembourg, England, Wales, Germany, Austria, France, Hungary, Romania. And of course Geneva in Switzerland.

How do you enjoy your leisure time? What do you do for recreation?

In my leisure time I study languages (not too successfully, but I do anyway), I also find theology very interesting. Next to that, I walk our family’s dogs, garden, work on my car, clean, etc. I mostly listen to podcasts, sermons, music, or audiobooks as I’m doing those things because otherwise I get quite easily bored.

Is there anything that the questionnaire didn’t cover?

It didn’t give me the option to say I was Dutch Reformed, but I slipped it in somewhere anyway. That being said, I believe the Westminster Standards are thoroughly Biblical, I have learnt a lot from reading them and appreciate them very much.

About Me

I listened to so many American/Scottish/English sermons, Puritan audiobooks, etc. I sometimes feel more part of the Anglosphere than European. That is also a reason I’ve signed up here.

Oh, and for those interested in Meyers-Briggs personality types, my type somehow hovers in between INFP and INTJ ;P.

My Interests

Some of my interests are theology, biblical philosophy, history, music, plants, healthy food, biology in general, creationism, woodworking and fixing cars. I also taught myself to play the organ badly. And as you can see I also like writing.
