On the subject of children

Tell us about your family. How do you feel about relocating?

My family and I are close, and it would be really hard for me to move far away. I’d really prefer to stay east of the Mississippi and south of Ohio. However, I won’t say I’d never leave.

How old were you when you were drawn to Christ and how is your Christian walk these days?

I don’t remember a time when I couldn’t articulate the gospel. I always knew I was bought by Christ, even though it took a long gradual time to come to a mature understanding of grace.

This past year has been rough on me, due to some family troubles. I’ve many times doubted the kindness of God, and his wisdom. However, the Spirit always draws me back to reflect on the person of Christ, his atonement and his resurrection.

How have the Doctrines of Grace changed or affected your life?

I no longer look to my own performance as security for my salvation and standing before God. I have joy and confidence.

Do you have a "Quiet Time?" What are you studying?

I am reading in Hebrews and 1st John, where we are as a church right now.  What is striking me most is the wonder and beauty of the person of Christ. After all the ages of the patriarchs and prophets Christ appears as the fulfillment of everything.

Are you content being single? Why? If not, why?

Actually, yeah. I have my family, and  my brothers and sisters of the church. My job also gives me great fulfillment, and I enjoy having time to do volunteer work. (Ask me about my habitat park.) However, now and then I get the baby fever.  I know I will parent through fostering or adoption whether I find a man or not.

What are four qualities your friends would attribute to you?

Intense, friendly, loyal, childlike. (Still trying to figure out that last one.)

What are three things you are most thankful for?

Salvation, my family, the natural world.

Describe the character and personality traits you enjoy in another person? What are yours?

I enjoy a person who is curious about the world. Someone who seems to have a fire of energy to go do and learn everything, who has many diverse interests. But also someone who has the dedication to pursue and complete something, rather than a flighty person who can’t get anything done.

Other than your parents, who has been the most influential person in your life and how?

I can’t come up with one, so I’ll list several. The list will probably get longer as I think of more.

My pastor, James Tippins. Under his teaching I finally understood the doctrines of grace.

My boss/mentor, J. Jones. He’s taught me everything I know about plants and gardening. When I first came to the garden after leaving an abusive work situation at my old job he gave me a fresh start. Most of all he taught me that people will rise to become what you believe they can achieve.

Favorite lines from movies, poems, songs, hymns or Scripture you would like to tell us about?

“For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.” Hebrews 11:14

“Few places in this world are more dangerous than home. Fear not, therefore, to try the mountain passes. They will kill care, save you from deadly apathy, set you free, and call forth every faculty into vigorous enthusiastic action” –John Muir.

“No encuentro nada más valioso que darteNada más elegante que este instanteDe silencio”–Jorge Drexler.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.” Hebrews 12:1-3

What type of work do/did you do?

I’m a gardener. I care for a couple hundred sq ft. nursery, two very small greenhouses, and maintain the grounds of the botanic garden.

How long have you been/were you in that line of work? Do/you enjoy it?

3 years. It is one of the great joys of my life.

Do you have any life-long goals? What are they?

I intend to go to graduate school for Plant Conservation, and after that get a job with a botanic garden or a conservation organization. My passion is the longleaf/wiregrass ecosystem of the coastal plain.

I also want to have land, maybe 5 acres or more. Part of it I would restore to good quality habitat, and part I would convert into an orange farm.

Another big intention is to foster or adopt children.

Where were you born and where have you traveled?

I was born in Michigan, I grew up in Missouri, and now I live in Georgia. I’ve travelled to Panama for a total bust mission trip, Catalunya Spain on vacation, and the Andes and Amazon Ecuador for study.

How do you enjoy your leisure time? What do you do for recreation?

I adore lifting weights. I also enjoy gardening, hiking, botanizing, photographing insects, and watching opera.  Some of my favorite podcasts are: The Native Plant Podcast, Revisionist History, Geology Flannelcast, In Defense of Plants,  and The Babylonbee.

Is there anything that the questionnaire didn’t cover?

I don’t have premium, so if you really really want to find me you can hunt me down and message me on other apps.
