My ideal place to live

In the suburbs

My view on smoking

I am a non-smoker

My view on drinking

I don't drink, but don't mind others drinking in moderation

On the subject of children

I would like to have children one day, I don't know/not sure/if God wills

Tell us about your family. How do you feel about relocating?

I have two younger sisters, a mom, and a step-dad, alongside a step-brother and a step-sister. I also have two wonderful grandparents, who I am very close with.

I wouldn’t mind relocating, so long as I am in the Greater Richmond Area. I desire to live here, as I love my church dearly, and want to house missionaries at my home; not only that, but my extended family lives in Richmond too.

How old were you when you were drawn to Christ and how is your Christian walk these days?

Before I was saved when I was 10, I remember muttering, “I hate you God,” (Rom. 3:13-14; Col. 1:21) but, with my lips, I said, “I love you.” (Mark 7:6) Even at 6 years old, I didn’t want to go to church; I hated God, and I was totally dead. (Eph. 2:1-2) But then, at the age of 10, God, who is rich in mercy, saved me through an AWANA’s program. After that, my manor towards God changed; I now had the desire to read the Bible and to study it. (Psalms 19:7-11; Rom. 12:2; Eph. 1:13; 1 John 2:4-6) However, the pleasures of the world began to slowly slip in and choke my faith. (Matt. 13:7, 22) When I was 13, my parents divorced, and I became addicted to video games. For 6 to 8 hours a day, I played Minecraft, trying to cope with the deep pain I was in; I was angry, bitter, and quarrelsome. (Titus 3:7) At 15, I was invited to go to a youth-retreat, wherein I was convicted of my sins, and rededicated my life to Christ. Immediately, I returned to Him and began to read my Bible again, daily discovering the truths written in His Word. Finally, after 2 ½ years of studying His Word, I realized that God is sovereign; I had no choice in the matter of salvation (Eph. 2:4-9; Titus 3:5), but rather it was God’s doing completely. (Phil 1:29) I no longer worried about keeping salvation, but God was going to keep me no matter what. (John 6:37; Phil. 1:6) I praise God for this wonderful realization in His Word, as I have grown substantially with Him!

How have the Doctrines of Grace changed or affected your life?

Immensely have been changed through the Doctrines of Grace. As Spurgeon wrote, “We don’t believe it because Calvin taught it. We believe it because Matthew, Mark, Luke and John taught it.” It is incredibly true what he said, as throughout my daily reading of the Scriptures, I cannot escape the fact, that the Doctrines of Grace a true. Recently, I read Psalm 14: there is much in it to be said about Total Depravity.

The most significant change, though, is in my personal-walk with Christ. I have become closer to Him, through the Doctrines of Grace, because I see it in His Word. To know, then, that God before eternal, chose me in love, and in His gracious mercy – for His name’s sake – saved me through Christ, without me meriting any deed, has brought me to my knees in worship towards the Lord. On top of that, I now adore and fear my God, even more – wanting to know Him even more, because He is so gracious towards me.

Do you have a "Quiet Time?" What are you studying?

Everyday is a walk for me. As is written, “This is the day which the LORD has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24, NASB) I wake up early in the morning, and start my day off by grabbing a coffee and reading through a chapter of Proverbs; then, I read five Psalms, worshipping God through the Word; finally I do my personal study, which now I am in Galatians, going through v. by v. I also enjoy reading through various commentaries and expanding my knowledge of the Word, as is written, “and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” (John 8:32, NASB)

Who is your favorite Biblical Character and why?

My favorite Biblical character is the apostle Paul. Out of all of the books of the Bible, I have always been drawn to his letters (especially 1 Corinthians), since I am deeply in-love with the deep things of God, as they are challenging to understand (that is if they can even be understood!). As Peter wrote in his epistle concerning Paul, “as also in his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.” (2 Peter 3:16, NASB)

Not only do I enjoy reading Paul’s epistles, inspired by the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 3:16), but also reading about his boldness to preach the Gospel in Acts. Though this verse is in Romans, it encapsulates his reasoning for such boldness: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek, For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “But the righteous man shall live by faith.”” (Romans 1:16-17, NASB) Whenever I am evangelizing, I am reminded of this verse, knowing that the very Gospel I am sharing, is the righteousness of God.

Are you content being single? Why? If not, why?

At the moment, I am content being single, as I have found my joy and purpose in the Lord.

What are four qualities your friends would attribute to you?

My friends, and my family, say that I am: hardworking, forgiving, compassionate, and creative.

What are three things you are most thankful for?

I am incredibly thankful for God, my church, and my family.

Describe the character and personality traits you enjoy in another person? What are yours?

What I enjoy in others: honesty, intelligence, truthful, faithful, kind, and hospitable

According to my family, as well as a friends, I am: forgiving, trustworthy, kind, fun, great with kids, honest, creative, organized, and zealous.

Other than your parents, who has been the most influential person in your life and how?

The most influential person I had in my life, was a young man, a few years older (we’ll call him Tim). On my first night at youth group, I was invited by a friend; however he disappeared and left me standing awkwardly. However, Tim saw me, and he introduced himself to me.  Soon, Tim and I became close and we began to talk on the phone, almost everyday. We discussed many things: the Bible, what God was teaching us, life-issues, sermons, doctrine, and occasionally girls. There wasn’t a dull moment between us and we were basically brothers. Tim was so kind to me, even when my opinions were lofty. He would always use the Word to bring me back to what it says, even if it hurt me.

What contributed to your previous relationship/marriage ending?

In my previous relationship, my ex wanted to do illegal substances. What made matters worse, is the friend group we both were in, had access to drugs (I found this out later). Through a lot of prayer and counsel from others, I built up the courage and broke up with her and cut-ties with that friend group.

How long have you been on your own since and what did you to do get through it?

It has been well over a year, and through that year, I studied the Word intensely and found myself growing with God at a faster rate than I had previously.

Favorite lines from movies, poems, songs, hymns or Scripture you would like to tell us about?

Hymns: He Will Hold Me Fast; Praise to the Lord, the Almighty; Behold Our God;

Scripture: 2 Timothy 2:15; Romans

What type of work do/did you do?

I currently work as a swim coach at NOVA. However, I will occasionally lifeguard, if needed. As a swim coach, I teach little children how to swim, in the afternoon, through the lessons program. In the evenings, I teach Strokes Schools (which is for kids who can swim already, but aren’t fast enough to be on the team). The age range varies per class of kids, but I teach anywhere from 3-15 years of age.

Previously, I worked as a lifeguard, where I was a Manager on Deck/Duty (MOD). While I was a lifeguard MOD, I was responsible to see the faculty was cleaned daily. This included: scrubbing tiles, vacuuming, sweeping the deck, taking out the trash, and cleaning the bathrooms. All glory be to God, but I was commended many times for having one of the cleanest faculties.

How long have you been/were you in that line of work? Do/you enjoy it?

I have been working at NOVA since I was fifteen. First, I started out as a lifeguard for one summer, then when I was sixteen, I began to training to become a lessons instructor. This is a job I thoroughly enjoy, and I see it as long-term; that is, if the Lord permits it.

Do you have any life-long goals? What are they?

I have many life-long goals. One of them, in particular, is to go to seminary and study Theology and Christian Ministry. This is because, I one day desire to teach the great doctrines found in the Scriptures to seminary students; but not just to students at seminary, but also to church attendees. If it is the Lord’s will, I want to also teach the youth. This will include the Scriptures, biblical doctrine, and the biblical languages.

However, my greatest goal that I have, is to be the best husband a man can be. The only way I know how to be such a man, is through the power of the Holy Spirit through Word of God. Whoever my wife is, I desire to love her as Jesus loved His church. Though I will mess up, and always fall short. Not only that, but the children we will have, I wish to teach them the Bible, as well as be a doer of the Word, that they may follow in pursuit after we follow after Christ. (Deut. 11:19; Prov. 22:6; Eph. 6:4.)

Where were you born and where have you traveled?

I was born in Richmond, Virginia and I have traveled to various places. In the States, I have been to North and South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, New York, Georgia, and Alabama. However, outside of the country, I have been to Germany, France, Ghana, and South Africa.

How do you enjoy your leisure time? What do you do for recreation?

My ideal time of tranquility, is alone in my room, studying the Word of God, and reading about other godly men. I also enjoy playing a hymn or two and being still; while a hymn is playing, I focus on the words and contemplate how great God is. In my room, during my leisure time, I also pray, read, listen to sermons, research, and write. I also enjoy being with friends and family – especially gamenights!

Is there anything that the questionnaire didn’t cover?

I think the questionnaire covered everything. I will say, I am a bit of a language nerd. So, if you speak German, feel free to speak it with me.
