Tell us about your family. How do you feel about relocating?

I have three brothers and no sisters. My mother remains alive.

I am called at this time to serve Christ through my church and have relocated to this area for that reason. Therefore, I do not consider myself able to relocate.

How old were you when you were drawn to Christ and how is your Christian walk these days?

I was 24 when I saw myself a sinner with respect to my holy Creator. Six months after a conversation with a preacher, I found myself trusting on Jesus Christ alone for my salvation. Another preacher introduced me to the doctrine of election to salvation, and I saw that I was elected to salvation by the Father, redeemed, justified, and sanctified by the death and resurrection of Christ, my elder brother, and indwelt by the Holy Spirit, having been born again by Him — I was saved by God’s grace and Christ’s love, and not of works. But my faith was weak, and I put myself under ministries that focused on exalting doctrine and the church and did not make Christ the sole subject of the scriptures and His example the sole rule of my life. I drifted into self-righteousness, and my love for Him grew cold.

But my Father was not willing that I stay in darkness! Now that I am under preaching that exalts Jesus Christ as the sole object of the scriptures and the only means of salvation and sanctification, I am becoming a more mature disciple of Jesus Christ. I am a sinner saved by grace, and pray daily that I might grow in the grace and knowledge of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Like the Apostle Paul, I press on toward the mark of the high calling of Christ Jesus.

I am highly involved in my small congregation and devoted to the spiritual benefit of the people in it. I have been the secretary/treasurer, the audio/video guy, the song leader and the fill-in preacher. I maintain our church’s website.

How have the Doctrines of Grace changed or affected your life?

The gospel pointed me to my sin and need for redemption from God’s righteous condemnation and ever points me toward Jesus Christ as my only hope in saving my eternal soul. God uses the gospel to point my eyes to Jesus Christ, and continually feeds my spiritual man with it. Because of the gospel of Jesus Christ is preached to me at least twice weekly and I have fellowship with brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ, my spiritual man not only lives, but grows stronger.

Do you have a "Quiet Time?" What are you studying?

It has become a beneficial habit to read the scriptures or a book on spiritual matters over coffee first thing in the morning and then pray before starting the day. I am currently rereading The Law Of Christ by Charles Leiter. This one book continues to teach me and I highly recommend it. I am studying the NT letters of John. Most recently I studied the Book of Hebrews from which I have preached a few messages.

Who is your favorite Biblical Character and why?

Besides Jesus Christ, I appreciate the Apostle Paul best. He is an example of a sinner of the worst kind redeemed and made an instrument of “grace and peace” in a mighty way. Once he saw Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus, he never sought to see anything else! His faithfulness and love in his calling is a heavenly wonder to behold. I follow him, because he followed Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1).

Are you content being single? Why? If not, why?

Yes, I am content with singleness, but as the future unfolds and the world seems colder I would appreciate the loving company of a godly spouse. I have witnessed beautiful things in the trials of Christian marriages, and would like to see if the Lord would allow me to give and receive love in matrimony. Christ is my All, and His children should never consider themselves lacking regardless of the state in which He places them.

What are four qualities your friends would attribute to you?

Funny, resilient, intelligent and easy-going.

What are three things you are most thankful for?

That my name is written in heaven!

That I am under the ministry of a faithful pastor and able to minister to a Christ-centered church.

That I have a job where I can contribute to good causes and grow personally and professionally.

Describe the character and personality traits you enjoy in another person? What are yours?

I gravitate toward genuinely warm people who make me feel comfortable and welcome.

I appreciate people who are willing to give others respect and the benefit of the doubt.

I appreciate integrity and loyalty. I enjoy stories of family ties and strong friendships (not the mafia movie kind!). Therefore I often tear up when marriage vows are exchanged.

Other than your parents, who has been the most influential person in your life and how?

My current pastor. He is my closest friend, and I love His faithfulness to his calling, his boldness for Christ’s sake, and his willingness to share the gospel whenever he sees an opportunity. I appreciate how he expresses love to others.

Favorite lines from movies, poems, songs, hymns or Scripture you would like to tell us about?

Philippians 2:5-11 “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,  that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,  and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

What type of work do/did you do?

I am a nurse who works in healthcare quality.

How long have you been/were you in that line of work? Do/you enjoy it?

I enjoy my current role very much. I have been in this role for less than a year, but healthcare has been a very satisfying industry so far. And there are many other opportunities in healthcare available which do not require me to relocate and leave my service to Christ in this local church.

Where were you born and where have you traveled?

I was born in the American Midwest. I have traveled to nearly half of the United States, as well as Montreal, Toronto, Monterrey, Mexico and Puerto Rico.  Nearly all of that travel was work-related; so not much time to enjoy it. I would like to see more of the Western states – have never seen the Grand Canyon or the Black Hills. And I find Brazil and South Africa attractive travel opportunities, but have yet to visit them. I would like to be immersed in another culture – it seems fun to me to spend six weeks in Brazil and observing the culture, being immersed in the language – and enjoying the food!

How do you enjoy your leisure time? What do you do for recreation?

I have always have a do-it-yourself project going. I like listening to music, history, economics and sociology. I exercise. Bowling. I do much reading. I like science fiction and fantasy books or drama.

Is there anything that the questionnaire didn’t cover?

– I am currently pursuing an MBA in Healthcare Management.

– I believe that only believers should be baptized.
