Tell us about your family. How do you feel about relocating?

I have two married daughters with wee grand kids, a teenage son, and two younger daughters. I would consider relocating, but cannot at this time.

How old were you when you were drawn to Christ and how is your Christian walk these days?

At about seventeen l became abruptly spiritually awake and aware of the dangers in and around me. I began to call to God for help and opened a kjv red letter Bible I had then, desperate for answers. In a little less than a year of searching and praying, God opened my understanding of His gospel, relieved the heaviness of guilt and anxiousness, and flooded my soul with joy and a new life. After being saved, I was searching and stumbling through some of the different denominations, and briefly joined a group that denied the Trinity. (God’s Word helped me get free from that). I was first exposed to reformed theology and Calvinism at twenty five. Since then I’ve gradually grown and gained deeper understanding of His Word. He has been faithfully leading me from wrong thinking (sin) into truth. I know He has and is graciously working to humble me, and make me in His likeness, because I have a growing desire to know Him, fear Him, please Him, and know Him personally.

How have the Doctrines of Grace changed or affected your life?

They recalibrate all of my thoughts and understanding of His Word. I’m able to detect and deal with my hearts Armenian tendencies. I correctly see God’s Sovereignty in salvation, and know (am learning) my role in His work. They frequently remind me how completely ruinous and selfish man is apart from Holy God. The more the doctrines of grace (Bible truth) reveal His attributes and His person, the more my heart rests, knowing it has always been His work to save and sanctify me.

Do you have a "Quiet Time?" What are you studying?

I have had regular quiet times before, but most  alone time with God in His Word is throughout the whole day with opportunities or promptings of heart and mind. Searching His Word, and listening to John MacArthur, R.C Sproull, Steven Lawson, the puritans and all their ilk are greatly satisfying my hunger to understand His Word.

Who is your favorite Biblical Character and why?

If God (the Son) is a Biblical character in this divine drama, then I would have to say He is. He is the Alpha and Omega from Genesis to Revelation! One of my favorite men is Caleb, because of his (and Joshua’s) courage in God, and his rebuke of the faithless Israelites (Numbers 13:30), and his heart stirring words at eighty five years of age! He was still full of fire and faith in God, and was given his desire for God’s honor and glory! (Joshua 14)

Are you content being single? Why? If not, why?

If being single is necessary to draw my wandering heart closer to my First Love, and to suit His aim for my life, then I embrace it. As I grow, I want to be found more and more willing to do His will over mine. However… verses like Genesis 2:18, Ecclesiastes 4:12, Ephesians 5:31, and many others like them seem to find their way into my prayers. I will strive to be content with God’s timing and providence.

What are four qualities your friends would attribute to you?

Friendly. Positive attitude. Honest. Hard worker.

What are three things you are most thankful for?

I’m truly thankful that God has willed to give me new birth to be one of His! I am truly thankful that He is ever opening my eyes to know Him through HIs Word and all of the experiences of this life! I am very thankful for His kind patients with me. It has taught me to be patient with others.

Describe the character and personality traits you enjoy in another person? What are yours?

Someone who is continually thankful to God, genuinely and openly committed to Him, and can enjoy a laugh while persevering through God’s testing’s and life’s difficulties. I enjoy industrious, creative, and witty personality. Greatly admire compassion driven people for others in need. I would think the afore mentioned traits are my own. Down to earth, but a big dreamer. Growing passion to live life full and free as Jesus came to give. John 10:10 I pray that He will continue to mold me into His character and likeness.

Other than your parents, who has been the most influential person in your life and how?

Jesus and His effectual work in me and through others has, and is changing my life.

What contributed to your previous relationship/marriage ending?

Former wife had a work related affair and finally divorced me in full pursuit of her own ambitions. I could not help but to forgive each time in light of the forgiveness Father through His Son has given to me (Matt 6:14-15) (Matt18:21-35), and for years prayed for her heart and full reconciliation to Him. I learned that you CAN love someone the way God has CHOSEN to love those stubborn rebels He elects (myself included). I believe that two reborn people that are committed to Him first, can have a joy filled, loving, blissful marriage by choosing daily to exclusively set their love and affections on God first and then each other above all others.

How long have you been on your own since and what did you to do get through it?

I have been on my own for a little less than a year, but was familiar with pains of betrayal for some years already. God used the heartache (painful seasons are usually the best growing seasons) after the divorce to understand how we betray and reject His great sacrificial love for other worldly loves. I believe God was preparing me to learn big lessons the year before the divorce as I was praying individually and for my family that we would know Him more. During that time I was heavily confronted with some of the hard things Jesus said to professing  and would be followers eg. Matt7:22-23, Matt10:34-39, Luke9:57-62, Luke14:26-27, Luke18:29. As I was going through the pains of the divorce I was reminded of the infinitely greater relationship and direction in my life was with Jesus. I’m Biblically convinced that our personal relationship with God is what is most important to Him, and He will use the experiences of this life to accomplish His perfect will. I’m thankful to close friends that have encouraged and prayed for me and my family. It is God and His Word that continue to help me persevere, and will till glory.

Favorite lines from movies, poems, songs, hymns or Scripture you would like to tell us about?

John17:3 is one of the most summarizing and meaningful verses to me. To think that Almighty God would put so much creative energy, thought, patients, love, etc.. that we might by His mercy and grace know Him intimately…Forever!

What type of work do/did you do?

Military, security, oilfield service.

How long have you been/were you in that line of work? Do/you enjoy it?

I’ve been in the oilfield service for six years, and enjoy the freedom, countryside, people, and hard work.

Do you have any life-long goals? What are they?

I have a growing desire to be found with no shame, to be met with Jesus open arms when I see Him face to face, and to hear those great words of commendation. I want to know Him more through His Word, to be full of faith, to bring joy to the Holy Spirit (stop grieving Him), and to be willing and effectual in the work of His Kingdom. Of course to see my children and others saved would be answer to prayer. Putting it in God’s hands to have a organic and profitable small farm including aquaponic systems, and pray that it could also be used as a ministry for His Kingdom. I enjoy all kinds of  instrumental music and would like to master one or two instruments.

Where were you born and where have you traveled?

Born Denver CO. Stationed in Pearl Harbor while in the Navy. Persian Gulf mine fields during Desert Shield and Desert Storm.  Bahrain, Thailand, Hong Kong (pre 1999), South China Sea (during monsoon weather). Panama Canal, Acapulco Mexico, Long Beach CA, under Golden Gate Bridge to Oakland Harbour (saw Alcatraz). Some beautiful Caribbean islands.

How do you enjoy your leisure time? What do you do for recreation?

Hikes with the kids by streams, beaver ponds, through woods, and attempting to pet or catch any creature that lies in our path. Enjoy quality movies, family games, documentaries, creation videos, learning backyard farming techniques on the web, just installed honey bees in a Langstroth bee hive I had to assemble. Enjoy all of God’s creation whenever wherever I can. I have a heart burdon how to use all things for Christian culture and ministry.

About Me

Big reason I am on SGS is for the spiritual  fellowship of like minded believers (hence my username1John1:3), and especially love to hear testimonies of His sovereign and loving hands (Rom8:28) on those who have walked through tough times, and dark valleys of testing. I truly love everyone on SGS in Christ, and am encouraged to hear all the God glorifying testimonies. One of the greatest joys of true believers is our fellowship in Christ. With that, and His Word (Matt7:24-27) for a foundation, lifelong friendships, and marriages are sure to hold fast through windy, faith testing, and Sovereignly sent storms.   John17:20-26
