Here are some helpful hints, tricks, and info for those who are new to SGS (or those who just want to know more!)

    Interacting on SGS

You will notice that SGS is very different than most online dating sites. There is a HUGE community aspect here, and if you take advantage of it – you will be blessed. I highly encourage you to take part in discussions on on the Activity Feed or in Groups/Forums. Connect with people. Make friendships. Encourage folks. You will find that this is an amazing group of single believers of all ages with whom you can have great fellowship with. We often have Zoom meetings together – JOIN THEM. They are fun and uplifting – not to mention a great way to interact with people “in person” to see what they are like. There will soon be a video chat feature built into all the groups, I’m told – when that happens, use it! The more you focus on others and just enjoying your time here, the more you will be encouraged by your experience. You just never know know how those new friendships may grow!

In your adventures here, please also keep in mind that members here range in spiritual maturity. Don’t be turned off if you see posts that discourage you. Feel free to block those who you don’t wish to interact with.

Also, don’t be discouraged if you don’t find “the one” right away… in a month… in 6 months… etc. There is a CONSTANT flow of new folks signing up here… you just never know what the Lord will do. Remember – HE is the One who has sovereignly ordained your life – for your Christlikeness and for His glory. Speaking from experience, even if I never meet someone here, my time here has been WORTH IT because I have made some incredible friends who have blessed my life in ways I never imagined. Keep your eyes fixed on Christ and your focus on encouraging others – you will be blessed, I promise!

    Completing Your Profile

Fill it out as much as you can. You don’t have to write a novel (unless you want to!) but definitely give it some time and effort. You want to give a decent overview of yourself, make people interested in getting to know you more. And put at least a few pictures! There are some excellent tips to filling out your profile HERE, written by JPoe. I recommend you check it out!

    Your Profile Privacy

Keep in mind that you can adjust the privacy settings of your profile (Account Settings > Privacy) for each question. Your options are Public (anyone can see this, even if they aren’t signed into SGS), All Members (they must be signed into SGS), My Connections (people you’ve connected with), and Only Me (a great way to hide questions you haven’t finished or info you don’t want to share.)

    If You Use Your Phone

Just a note that until the App is finished (they tell me it’s coming!) you will likely want to switch to the Desktop View/Version when accessing SGS on your mobile device.

    Following vs. Connecting

While both features will allow you to filter the Activity Feed, connecting requires both parties to accept – think of it like “friending” someone. You can follow anyone, on the other hand, without their response. You may see your followers in Account Settings > Followers.

    Blocking

If you do not wish to see someone’s profile or posts in the Activity Feed -OR- you do not want them to see your profile or posts, you can use the Block feature. The Block button is available on someone’s profile or in the Members List section.

    Groups/Forums

There are various themed Groups you can join that have ongoing forum discussions. Feel free to answer an old question OR post a new discussion thread. These will also show on the Activity Feed – UNLESS it’s a private group. You can still see the group posts for private groups on the Activity Feed if you use the “groups” filter AND you are part of that group.

To make a new group, you need to be using either a computer or the desktop version. On the dropdown menu where your username is – Groups > Create Group.

Hope this helps! 🙂 And WELCOME TO SGS!

Yay! 😁 Hkahrl (Hunter) is hosting one tomorrow. I’ll probably do one on Tuesday evening next week! Each host does them a little differently, but they are always a lot of fun!
